Insight Test Labs successfully supported Realtek Semiconductor Corporation, a global leader in IC design, in obtaining official HDMI® 2.2 certification for its latest RTD2177A chipset. The RTD2177A successfully passed the HDMI® 2.2 Compliance Test Specification (CTS) and officially received HDMI® certification.
This achievement demonstrates Realtek’s strong R&D capabilities in next-generation ultra-high-speed audiovisual transmission technologies, while also highlighting Insight Test Labs’ expertise in high-speed signal validation, compliance testing, and engineering support. Entering a New Era of Ultra-High-Bandwidth Transmission: HDMI® 2.2 Delivers Enhanced Visual Experiences and New Validation Challenges
As global display technologies continue to advance toward 8K at 120 Hz, as well as 10K/16K resolutions and ultra-high-resolution gaming applications, demand for high-speed, high-bandwidth audiovisual transmission continues to grow. The new HDMI® 2.2 specification introduced by the HDMI Forum significantly increases maximum bandwidth from 48 Gbps in the previous generation to 96 Gbps. It also introduces new Fixed Rate Link (FRL) transmission rates of 16 Gbps, 20 Gbps, and 24 Gbps, enabling native support for uncompressed, full-chroma high-definition video formats such as 4K@240 Hz and 8K@60/120 Hz.
In addition, HDMI 2.2 introduces the new Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) to enhance audiovisual synchronization in multi-device environments. Together with the new Ultra96 HDMI® Cable and Category 4 (Cat 4) connector specifications, HDMI 2.2 places more stringent physical-layer requirements on signal integrity and high-frequency attenuation in ultra-high-speed transmission environments.
HDMI® 2.2 presents greater validation challenges for source PHY design, signal quality, and high-speed channel performance, making professional compliance testing and engineering analysis more important than ever.
Under these demanding requirements, Realtek’s RTD2177A not only successfully achieved HDMI 2.2 certification, but also demonstrates powerful interface conversion capabilities. It supports direct transmission of DisplayPort UHBR20 signals to HDMI without Display Stream Compression (DSC), significantly reducing signal processing latency while enabling ultra-high refresh rates and uncompressed, high-quality video transmission.
