Electronic products are everywhere in modern life. Each product comes with its own specifications and usage standards, such as differences in charging wattage, various types of cables required for connecting different peripherals, and even different charging ports for each product. As a result, consumers often need to carry multiple charging cables, adapters, transformers, or power cords to meet the needs of different devices.
To enhance user convenience and reduce electronic waste, the European Union established the EU DIRECTIVE mandating the standardization of charger interfaces and the unified use of USB Type-C® connector and USB Power Delivery protocol for charging portable battery powered electronic products. This year marks the time for change! Starting from December 28, 2024, all portable, battery powered products must use USB-C® charging interface and the for power above 15W if they are to be sold within the EU.
With the end of the long wait approaching, many customers have started inquiring about the‘USB Power Delivery Specification, Revision 3.2, Version 1.1, 2024-10’ issued by the USB Promoter Group and the USB-IF (IEC 62680). including questions about testing requirements, procedures, and whether these tests are mandatory. To solve your worries, we have compiled some common questions regarding these regulation (referred to below as USB-IF USB Specifications(IEC 62680).
